Hankins Family Mission
For the past fifty years the social mission of the Hankins family real estate companies has been focused on beautification projects such as revitalizing older buildings and gold leafing of the courthouse dome. Inspired by the Conscious Capitalism, Just Cause and corporate social responsibility movements, the next generation of leadership is shifting the social mission to a different area of economic development and will focus on issues that lead to out migration and the loss of our college educated youth.
The needs of the modern worker have changed. By 2020, it has been predicted that 40% of the workforce will be contract workers that hobble together a variety of projects or gigs to earn their income. Remote workers/telecommuters, solopreneurs, and entrepreneurial teams make up another large percentage of the workforce. The change has given rise to a global boom in both nonprofit and forprofit coworking spaces to serve those who prefer to work somewhere other than their basement or Starbucks and who need access to support services, continuing education, internships, and networking opportunities that enable them to remain competitive in the new workforce.
By reimaging, remodeling, and furnishing the first floor and mezzanine of the Chase Bank Building, Hankins Management Company has drastically reduced the cost and greatly expedited the timeline typically required to open a first-class coworking space and community development hub. It is our sincere hope that the space will inspire and lift up caring, passionate citizens who want to collaborate on developing the different types of support communities today’s young workers need and that are vital to helping Huntington and the greater tri-state area remain relevant, grow and prosper.
